Signaling Technician

​

Reporting to:  Signaling Supervisor

​

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

To provide comprehensive maintenance services covering the automatic train control systems so that they operate to a high degree of integrity for the CHSR railway.

 

As a core member of the line maintenance team, the Signaling Technician is responsible to assist the Signaling Supervisor in carrying out all level of preventive and corrective maintenance activities on the automatic train control system;

 

Install, service and repair signaling and train control systems located in operations control center, signaling equipment room, station signaling equipment rooms, depot signaling equipment rooms, along trackside and on-board trains;

 

Carry out repair and maintenance work with the use of hand, machine, electrical and electronic tools and reference to technical drawings, signaling schematics, manuals, rules and procedures;

 

Replace faulty signaling equipment, handover/taken back to the electronics workshop for repair;

 

Knowledge and competence in technical standards will be regularly assessed;

 

Follow the appropriate maintenance procedures and instructions to ensure compliance with the required requirements;

 

Maintain accurate maintenance records of automatic train control system and equipment performance, work accomplished and other information using a computerized maintenance management system;

 

Assist the Signaling Supervisor or other technical support staff to implement complex systems or new projects;

 

To be assigned and rotated to the First Line Response Technicians team when required;

 

Perform and carry out duties as instructed/ directed by the Signaling Supervisor;

Job Qualification:

​

Knowledge:

​

Sound knowledge of signaling principles, fixed block and moving block signaling systems, software based interlocking devices, point machines, induction and docking loops, cab signaling displays, on-board and wayside signaling equipment, would be a definite advantage;

 

This position is a safety critical role thus IRSE license to required level and certified to work on railway signaling equipment is mandatory;

 

Must have good eyesight and normal color vision.

Skills:

​

Strong analytical mind, and ability to grasp the complexity of a software based signaling and train control system;

 

Ability to use and calibrate various electronic test equipment and PC for the maintenance of central, wayside and on-board signaling equipment;

 

Ability to write simple technical reports, routine business correspondence, prepare method statements and drawings as required;

 

Possess good communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;

 

Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities;

 

Holder of a valid driving license with a good driving skill and experience

Experience:

​

Minimum 1-year work experience as a qualified electrical or electronics technician in maintaining and repairing computer based control and communication equipment, copper and fibre-optical based cables and interface equipment is highly preferable;

Education:

​

Higher Diploma and its equivalent
